PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: FISH TUMOURS IN THE ST. LAWRENCE RIVER

In the 1980s, fish tumours were identified as a concern in the St. Lawrence River due to industrial pollution. Since then, the Remedial Action Plan (RAP) has worked to restore the river’s health and reduce the impact of historical contaminants.

Recent reports now show that fish in this area are no more likely to have tumours than fish elsewhere in the Great Lakes. Based on this, the St. Lawrence River Restoration Council is recommending the status of this issue be changed from “Requires Further Assessment” to “Not Impaired.”
