AKWESASNE HUNTING & FISHING RESTRICTIONS

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) and Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) are informing the community that effective May 5, 2020, any hunting or fishing on the Territory of Akwesasne will be limited to community members only, until the Emergency Declaration has been lifted.

This decision was made with the health and safety of community members in mind in the effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Hunting and Fishing restriction will include all individuals that are from neighboring communities, and to our sister nations.

During this time, all existing permits will be suspended and all hunting and fishing permits will be put on hold. This will include the suspension of processing hunting permits for First Nations who hunt off-reserve, including community members who receive permits for geese hunting in and around Cornwall (providing the land owner gives the First Nation permission).

Those that are found breaking the restrictions will face fines or penalties.

Please be reminded that the most effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by practicing social distancing. Stay home and be safe.

We want all Akwesasronon to remain safe during this trying time and we extend our appreciation to our neighbors for adhering to this restriction in efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
