AKWESASNE STORM U13 AND U15 TEAM BRING MEDICINE GAME TO THE TOTAS AT TSIIONKWANONHSO:TE
The Akwesasne Storm U13 and U15 players brought a lacrosse medicine game to our beloved totas at Tsiionkwanonhso:te. The game was organized between the Akwesasne Storm lacrosse organization, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Traditional Medicine, Addictions Services, and Land-Based Healing Programs. A special nia:wen/thank you to LaToya Rourke from Land-Based Healing for organizing the speakers and presenters.
The totas and the players took full advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed being outdoors. The residents sat on the patio and cheered on the players as they ran and hustled on the lawn.
Mitchell Skidders from MCA’s Addictions Services Outpatient Supervisor, and Johnson and Jasmine Jimmerson from MCA’s Traditional Medicines, provided background information and knowledge on the significance of the medicine game of Lacrosse and explained the different struggles young men would face into adulthood. They explained the reason for the medicine game, which is to bring healing and to uplift the minds of the men playing the game, as well as the minds of those who can’t play any longer.
The players were given a medicine lacrosse ball after the game and a lucky tota was also gifted a medicine lacrosse ball.
The afternoon was filled with knowledge, smiles, laughs, cheers, and positive energy.
The residents and staff would like to thank everyone who had a hand in organizing the medicine lacrosse game for the totas. It was truly appreciated.
Nia:wen/thank you to Rhonda Aldrich, Storm Lacrosse team manager and Tsiionkwanonhso:te Recreation and Leisure Supervisor, Diane Lazore, in organizing another amazing activity for our totas.
