COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAM ANNOUNCES THIRD DOSE COVID-19 VACCINE CLINICS FOR TSI SNAIHNE
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s (MCA) Community Health Program is announcing clinic dates for the third dose of COVID-19 vaccines. The vaccine clinics will be open to all community members, community members’ non-indigenous spouses, and healthcare workers; unfortunately, at this time, household members of non-indigenous staff are not eligible to receive the third dose through MCA Community Health’s vaccine clinic. However, MCA and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe have arranged for the household members of non-indigenous staff and their household members to receive a third dose at the SRMT clinics.
A third dose is not mandatory at this time; however, the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine reduces over time. Therefore, a third dose (booster) is recommended. A third dose will raise the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine and provide individuals with an improved immune response to prevent infection.
Community members aged 18+ are eligible to receive the third booster of the COVID-19 vaccine. To be eligible for the third dose, an individual must have received their second dose six months prior to receiving the third. Individuals who are currently on immunosuppressive therapy (have been receiving cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood, organ transplant recipients or taking immunosuppressants, received a stem cell transplant within the last two years, have moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency, advanced HIV infection, receiving active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids other immune response suppressing drugs) will be eligible to receive their third dose prior to the six-month eligibility requirement.
Third dose vaccine clinics are scheduled for December 2nd and 3rd at the Snye Recreation Center from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. You must bring proof of your previous two doses, and your status card will be required. Non-indigenous spouses of community members must attend the clinic with their spouse. Appointments are encouraged, but not required, as walk-ins will be welcomed at all three clinic dates. Both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be available for all clinic dates.
