The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Community Health Program reports that as of January 4, 2021, a total of eight (8) new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the northern portion of the community. This brings the total active cases in MCA’s jurisdiction to twenty (20) with 61 cases overall since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne falls within the jurisdiction of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit and therefore the province-wide shutdown and restriction on social gatherings to be contained to only those within your household applies in Akwesasne. Please postpone your gatherings and remain vigilant in practicing social distancing, mask-wearing, washing of hands, and staying away from others when sick. MCA’s curfew remains in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.
We wish to thank and recognize the community for their continued ongoing diligence in practicing preventative measures especially the difficult task of social distancing from our friends and family. We will get through this together.
If you need to be tested for COVID-19, please make an appointment with the MCA Community Health Program by calling 613-575-2341 ext. 3220. Community members can also access free testing through the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe which has announced a new schedule of testing. Check their website, for testing dates.
