AMBE District Schools
The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education will open the three schools on Thursday, June 4, 2009. Students will be picked up at their regular times, although the bus drivers may not be their regular driver. Please ensure that your child is ready and prepared to be picked up as there may be some delays.
The Early Years Program for students in Head Start, K4, and K5 will continue to be housed in each district school, with the former Head Start Kana:takon site still housed at the Tsi Snaihne School.
The Tsi Snaihne School will house students from the Districts of Tsi Snaihne and Kana:takon for Grades 1 to Grade 4. The Skahwatsi:ra Program will also still be housed at the Tsi Snaihne School. Bus transportation will be provided for all students in the Districts of Tsi Snaihne and Kana:takon to attend school at the Tsi Snaihne School.
The Kana:takon School will be open for students in Grades 5, 6, 7, & 8 who reside in the Districts of Tsi Snaihne and Kana:takon. Bus transportation will be provided for all students in the Districts of Tsi Snaihne to attend school at the Kana:takon School. The Early Years bus will continue to bring students in Kana:takon to Kana:takon School.
The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk School will house students in Head Start to Grade 8 who reside on Cornwall Island and Cornwall. Bus transportation will be provided for all students on Cornwall Island and the City of Cornwall.
High School
High school students who live on Cornwall Island will be transported to their respective schools in Cornwall following their regular pick up schedules beginning on Wednesday, June 3.
High school students who live in the Districts of Tsi Snaihne and Kana:takon will begin school on Thursday June 4. Classrooms will be set up at the Kana:takon School for students in Grades 9, 10, 11, & 12. Students will ride the buses to attend their classes at the Kana:takon School. General Vanier and CCVS have arranged to have coursework and textbooks available for all affected students. The Kana:takon School Food Services Program will be providing all high school students with breakfast and lunch.
All students are asked to bring their books and materials with them to school. Although this is a difficult situation, AMBE staff will welcome your child back to school and make the day as regular and normal as possible.
