The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is inviting all to attend the grand opening of the A’nowara’kowa Arena’s new outdoor pavilion.   The ceremony will be held this FridayJune 23rd at 12 p.m.

“On behalf of the Department of Tehotiiennawakon, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our funding partners, the Mohawks of Akwesasne Community Settlement Trust Fund (MACST), and the Akwesasne Economic Development Fund (AEDF),” said Kahnastatsi Jacobs, Arena Manager. “Our community is very fortunate to have this new venue on Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island) that enhances our outdoor space and can serve as a focal point for community activities.”

The pavilion will provide a new gathering place for community elders, families, and youth that gives protection from nature’s elements. The structure can be used for sports program events, parties, conferences, vendors, pow wows, farmer’s markets, wedding anniversary celebrations…the opportunities are endless.

“We would also like to thank our grant writers, executive staff, DR Delormier Construction and Pavilion Design,” Jacobs said. “With your contribution the end result is a beautiful pavilion overlooking the St. Lawrence River.”

An experienced core group, nicknamed the “Make it Happen Team” was behind this project. The team includes: Tracy Sunday-Cook, Special Project Officer; Rachel Lazare, Business Development Officer; Kahnastati Jacobs, Arena Manager; Technical assistance guru Joe Francis; Project Manager Leslie Papineau; and D&R Construction Manager, Mitch Cook.
