The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne-Environment Program is inviting the community of Akwesasne and surrounding area to their annual World Wetlands Day event on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Kawehno:ke Rec Center from 3PM-6PM. Every year on February 2nd, we celebrate World Wetlands Day, to raise global awareness about the important role of wetlands for people and the planet. This year’s theme “Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future”, highlights the important role of wetlands for sustainable urbanization. Urban wetlands are essential and contribute to making cities liveable.
The Environment Program along with other environmental organizations such as the St. Lawrence River Institute, Parks Canada - Thousand Islands, Turtle Island Conservation and others will be on hand with tables, booths and displays for the public to browse.
In addition, a kayak raffle will be taking place to give attendees a chance to win. Come join us at this event, as food and refreshments will be provided. Bridge passes are also available to non-residents through the St. Lawrence River Institute.
