The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) Emergency Measures and Environment staff are closely monitoring the water levels in the northern portion of the community. With rain accumulation and warmer temperatures projected in the forecast this week, residents near the St. Regis River should be aware of the possibility of flooding.

Although the risk of flooding is greatest near the former St. Regis River dam located in Hogansburg, MCA staff will continue to monitor and report any risk of flooding in the northern portion and MCA jurisdiction.

Please keep updated through CKON 97.3, the MCA website and Facebook page, and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe website and Facebook page.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has established shelters in the case of emergency evacuations and advises those closest to the high-risk areas near Hogansburg to be prepared, have valuables stored and important documents on hand. High-risk homes are being monitored closely by emergency staff.

In the case of an emergency, please contact the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service at 613-575-2000 (northern portion) or the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police at 518-358-9200
