Inaugurated For The 2006-2009 Term

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is the elected community government council for the Canadian portion of Akwesasne. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne has jurisdiction within thee districts of Akwesasne: Kawehnoke (Cornwall Island, Ontario), Kanatakon (St. Regis, Quebec), and Tsi Snaihne (Chenail / Snye, Quebec). The MCA is a thirteen member elected council with terms lasting three years. Each district elects four District Chiefs. The three districts elect one Grand Chief. District Chiefs utilize a portfolio structure, where they are asked to focus on specific community issues. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, for the 3 year 2006-2009 term is as follows:
