Drinking Water Advisory Lifted

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is announcing that the drinking water advisory for Kana:takon (St. Regis) and Tsi Snaihne (Snye) has been lifted.

MCA’s Environmental Health Officer made the decision to lift the advisory based on the current and updated evidence regarding the safety of the river water.   The St. Regis water treatment plant will resume normal operations for the treatment of drinking water.

Community members in the districts of Tsi Snaihne and Kana:takon who are connected to MCA’s water line should run their cold water taps for at least five minutes or until their water runs clear before resuming normal drinking.  Large-volume users (clinics, schools, etc.) may need to run cold water taps for a longer period of time on first use.  To get rid of any sediment, screens should be removed, rinsed and replaced.

Community members do not need to have their water tested if they are connected to the water line.  Please do not bring water samples to Community Health for testing.  The community’s water supply is tested and monitored regularly.
