AMPS Unveils New Look For Patrol Cars

Enniska /February 14, 2017

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is proud to unveil a new appearance for their organization and fleet of patrol cars. Formerly white with blue and red markings, the seven patrol cars are now white with bold gold and black markings, which matches the longtime AMPS logo and badge familiar to the community.

“We are updating our look and making other changes to improve and modernize our police force,” said Chief of Police Jerry Swamp. “We are making other changes as well to improve our overall service, including the recent creation of an AMPS Facebook page which is being used to reach community members and the general public in a faster and more direct way than we’ve had available in the past. It has already been a positive addition that we can see is a great tool for connecting with Akwesasne residents and sharing timely or important messages.”

AMPS is preparing to advance and grow in other areas as well. The police service, which is responsible for serving Akwesasne’s northern jurisdictions of Tsi Snaihne (Snye), Kana:takon (St. Regis) and Kawehno:ke (Cornwall Island), is also looking to increase the size of the force itself with the addition of new positions.

“In the next year and a half, AMPS will be experiencing a growth spurt with the addition of patrol officers and several senior management level inspector positions,” Swamp added. “We are looking forward to this growth and the updates that are going along with it.”

AMPS has already welcomed one new member to their force recently, as former MCA Conservation Officer Lawrence Jock completed his basic training and will be seen patrolling the community soon.
