NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION TO THE COMMUNITY AND RESIDENTS OF WADE LAFRANCE MEMORIAL ROAD

September 1, 2020 — This notice is to update the residents of Wade Lafrance Memorial Road that the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) Department of Infrastructure and Housing (DIH) will commence the project known as the “The Wade Lafrance Memorial Road Reconstruction Project – Phase 1”.

The construction zone will start from the Bittern Creek Bridge to a length of approximately 600m east on Wade Lafrance Memorial Road. The work consists of removing the existing asphalt material and raising the road surface approximately 150mm with granular A.

The project design was initiated in early 2020 with a phased construction approach, due to the length of roadway and readily available funding from the directive of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.

This roadway was deemed an access point for emergency vehicles and emergency evacuation within the area. The main objective of the Wade Lafrance Memorial Road Reconstruction project is to improve the overall safety for travelers along this section of the road as phase 1 to the larger project of rehabilitating the entire length of roadway from McDonald Road Intersection to Chapman Road Intersection.

The project was publicly tendered and awarded to Lazore’s Construction, who has completed similar sized projects in the past. The construction work for this project initiated with mobilization on August 31st, 2020, and has an anticipated completion date for early November 2020.

The construction traffic control (see below) will include a reduction of speed signage to 35km per hour. The work will not entail a road closure, but it will have traffic reduced to one lane at various times throughout the duration of the project. We ask that community members please respect the traffic control personnel and to obey the traffic instructions. The communities’ patience during the construction of this section of roadway is very much appreciated.

If you have questions about this project, you can contact the Department of Infrastructure and Housing Technical Project Manager at (613) 575-2250 ext. 1007 or the MCA Quality Control Inspector at (613) 930-3295.
