UPDATE ON COVID-19 OUTBREAK AT TSIIONKWANONHSO:TE LONG TERM CARE FACILITY

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Dept. of Health would like to take this time to update the community on the current facility outbreak at the Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long Term Care Facility.

In line with our infection prevention and control (IPAC) protocols, we are testing residents and staff in accordance with the guidance and direction of the EOHU. Apart from the initial three staff who tested positive last week, all other test results received thus far of staff and residents have been negative.  Testing is ongoing.

All staff have also participated in surveillance testing as directed by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

With the EOHU moving to the Orange (restrict) level, weekly testing has been mandated under Directive #3 from the Chief Medical Officer of Health.  With community spread being a major concern, this regular testing will help us detect new positive staff or asymptomatic staff early and limit the risk of potential exposure to our residents.

The health of all of our elders and workers in the home is paramount; we remain vigilant with all of our Infection Prevention and Control protocols, and would like to thank the community for their understanding.

Visitor restrictions will remain in place at Tsiionkwanonhso:te, and we will reassess and update the community weekly, or as the situation changes.
