The DOH oversees funding from various health organizations, ensuring compliance with regulations and legislation for clinics, mental health services, prevention programs, and public health.

Community Health Services (CHS) supports the physical, emotional, and developmental wellbeing of Akwesasronon through prevention-focused, family-centered care. This sector delivers health promotion, environmental health monitoring, prenatal and early childhood support, and navigation assistance for essential services such as Québec health cards and Jordan’s Principle. By combining public health education with hands-on support, Sector 2 empowers individuals and families to lead healthier lives rooted in community values and informed choices.

Mental Health & Wellness Services is dedicated to promoting mental well-being, healing, and recovery in the Akwesasne community. This sector takes a wholistic approach, integrating Kanien’kehá:ka culture, language, and traditions into all services. We recognize the importance of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health in supporting individuals and families to achieve balance and wellness.

Clinical Care Services delivers essential healthcare programs that support community wellness through access to medical care, chronic disease management, in-home nursing, and system navigation. Services are provided across Akwesasne’s three districts through medical clinics, home care programs, and Indigenous Patient Navigators who help individuals access care and support with dignity and respect.

About the Health Advisory Board

The Health Advisory Board is made up of community members from each district who play an important role in shaping the work of the MCA  Department of Health. Their purpose is to bring forward the voices of Akwesasró:non, ensuring that DOH programs and priorities are guided by strong governance and community input.

Members were selected through a community call-out and chosen based on letters of interest. The board meets four times per year to review DOH activities, provide feedback, and help ensure that services reflect the needs and values of Akwesasronon.
