Community Call Outs

The Akwesasne Family Wellness Program is seeking artwork from local Akwesasronon artists focused on creating a welcoming and affirming space for community.

We are looking for empowering, culturally reflective artwork that celebrates strength, resilience, identity and wellness.

Selected pieces will help enhance spaces connected to AFWP programming and support the well-being of community members.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Special Needs Program is seeking seven (7) community representatives to sit on the Special Needs Parent Committee for the Special Needs Program for a (3 year Term); two (2) members from the District of Kana:takon, two (2) members from the District of Kawehno:ke, two (2) members from the District of Tsi Snaihne, and one (1) Elder (any district). 

The purpose of the Special Needs Parent Advisory Committee Members is to: 

  • Provide parent and caregiver perspectives to strengthen the planning, delivery, of the Special Needs Program; 
  • Ensure services and supports reflect the needs, priorities, and cultural values of the Akwesasne community; 
  • Promote safe, inclusive, and culturally appropriate supports for individuals with special needs and their families. 

Eligibility of Committee Members:

  • Be a registered member of Akwesasne or immediately eligible to be registered as a member under the Akwesasne Membership code (does not include probationary members)
  • Have knowledge of Mohawk cultures and traditions
  • Have good character, credibility and reputation in the Akwesasne community
  • Not be convicted of an indictable offense in Canada or a Felony in the United States within 5 years prior to their appointment
  • Reside in the District for which they were appointed, unless otherwise approved by the Board • Have a strong understanding in Special Needs along with safety and care.
  • Willingness to participate in workshops, training sessions, webinars, etc.
  • Willingness to participate in quarterly board meetings.
  • Must be a Special Needs Parents and/or Caregiver.

SPECIAL NEEDS PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPLICATION

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the Akwesasne Rights and Research Office are seeking community members to join the Claims Advisory Committee. This group supports Akwesasne’s Land Claim Negotiation Team by sharing community knowledge and guidance. Former members are encouraged to reapply.

Eligibility:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a registered Member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne
  • Must reside in one of the three districts (Kawehno:ke, Kana:takon, Tsi Snaihne) or the southern portion (Akwesasne, NY).
