MCA SWEARS IN KANA:TAKON DISTRICT CHIEF TERESA OAKES 

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is pleased to announce that Teresa Oakes was officially sworn in as Kana:takon District Chief on December 21, 2025, at the Kana:takon Recreation Center. 

The swearing-in took place in a ceremony attended by immediate family. Justice of the Peace Alexandra David administered the oath of office, formally welcoming Chief Oakes as she rejoins Council. 

Chief Oakes was elected during the recent Kana:takon and Kawehno:ke by-election and will serve the remainder of the 2024–2027 Council term. She was unable to attend the larger ceremony held on December 19 due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Congratulations to District Chief Teresa Oakes as she continues her work on Council for the remainder of the current term.
