FROM TREE TO BASKET WORKSHOP

Join the Akwesasne Family Wellness Program for a 4-day hands-on workshop instructed by Angello Johnson of Good Mind Design. Participants will learn the traditional process of creating a black ash basket, from identifying black ash trees to weaving a finished basket, while gaining knowledge rooted in culture, sustainability, and tradition. 

📅 Dates: January 29, 30, 31 & February 1, 2026
🕐 Time: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
📍 Location: To be determined
🍽️ Lunch & snacks provided! 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN: 

  • Identifying black ash trees and understanding sustainable harvesting practices
  • Learning about the impacts of the Emerald Ash Borer
  • Pounding logs and preparing splints
  • Weaving and completing a traditional black ash basket 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 

  • Participants must be available to attend all four days
  • Limited to 12 participants
  • Participants will be selected through a random draw
