AKWESASNE MOHAWK AMBULANCE STAFF COMPLETES AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER EMERGENCY KITS TRAINING

The Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance (AMA) personnel recently completed in-service training for their recently acquired Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) emergency kits. The kits consist of support bags containing tools designed to help Autistic individuals manage sensory overload, reduce anxiety, and safely navigate emergency situations.

Key components of the ASD kits include the following:

😎Sensory Tools: fidget devices, noise-cancelling headphones, sunglasses, weighted blankets, and plush toys.

🖊️Communication Aids: laminated communication boards and a whiteboard with dry-erase markers to facilitate non-verbal interactions.

AMA Paramedic, Brooklyn Johnson, provided staff with a comprehensive overview of the kits and led a training focused on best practices for interacting with ASD patients and their caregivers.
