AMPS HONORS FIRST JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY GRADUATES

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) hosted their first annual Junior Police Academy program, offering Akwesasró:non youth a unique opportunity to work alongside AMPS officers. For one week, participants explored every side of policing, gaining an unforgettable look at the skills and responsibilities of law enforcement.
Throughout the week, Akwesasró:non youth took part in hands-on learning. From exploring police tools and vehicles, to marine patrols, drone operations, and fitness training. Youth also gained insight into forensic identification, organized crime investigations, and tactical unit operations, while practicing drills and teamwork along the way.
The week wrapped up with a graduation ceremony, where families, community leaders, and AMPS officers gathered to celebrate the commitment and achievements of the youth. Inspiring words were shared by AMPS Deputy Chief of Police Lee-Ann O’Brien, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) Grand Chief Leonard Lazore, and MCA Acting Executive Director Shannon Roundpoint, each recognizing the courage and commitment shown by the participants.
Congratulations to the Junior Police Academy graduates for their dedication and hard work throughout the week. Each participant demonstrated determination, teamwork, and respect as they took on the challenges of the program. The AMPS commends these youth for their accomplishments and encourages them to carry forward the leadership skills and confidence they have gained. This first graduating class has set a strong example for future Junior Police participants to follow.
