CONNECTING THROUGH MOVEMENT THIS HEART HEALTH MONTH
On Valentine’s Day, Akwesasronon laced up their skates and hit the ice at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena for a fun evening of skating with family and friends. The rink was filled with laughter, connection, and plenty of movement — a perfect way to celebrate Heart Health Month together.
In honour of Heart Health Month, the MCA Department of Health’s Community Health Services team was on site sharing important information about cardiovascular health, conduct blood pressure screenings and provide influenza/COVID-19 vaccines. Each family received a complimentary green food bag filled with fresh vegetables and healthy snacks. (Fun fact: adding more fruits and vegetables to your meals can help lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease!) To refuel after skating, families enjoyed a delicious, heart-healthy meal catered by Three Feathers Cafe.
Participants also had the opportunity to take part in a movement session with Krista, where they learned easy, practical exercises to keep their bodies moving at home. Attendee’s who joined the session were entered for a chance to win exciting prizes, including Heart to Heart Gym memberships and Family Passes to Countryside Adventures.
Niawenhkó:wa to Community Health Services and Akwesasne Child & Family Services for organizing such a meaningful and engaging event!
