DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION WELCOMES NEW COMPTROLLER

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is pleased to welcome Stéphane Bissonnette, CPA, CA as the new Comptroller for the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). Stéphane, originally from Cornwall, obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration [Concentration in Accounting] from Brock University in 1992 and subsequently obtained in Chartered Accountant designation in 1994. He has worked with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne for several years in a consulting capacity and is familiar with the organization and community. He brings over 25 years of experience in finance, risk management, and strategic planning within both the public and private sectors.

Stéphane's extensive background includes serving as Chief Financial Officer with the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority, Director of Internal Audit for Ontario’s French-language school boards, as well as numerous senior financial management roles with Kraft Foods Global Inc. and Comptroller for the Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest (French public school board in the Toronto area).

He is recognized for achieving strong financial results through collaboration, sound controls, and a commitment to people development and process improvement. Stéphane has also provided consulting and financial leadership through his firm, S2Biss Consulting Inc., where he provided temporary comptroller and chief financial officer services to his clients.

Heather Phillips, Director of Finance & Administration, welcomed Stéphane to the team, stating, “We are pleased to have Stéphane join our team into the Comptroller role. His familiarity with the organization and his strong financial leadership will support the continued advancement of MCA’s financial management systems and goals.”
