WALKING TOGETHER FOR HOPE & HEALING: DOH HOSTS INAUGURAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS WALK

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Department of Health (DOH) proudly held its first Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in the District of Kana:takon.

Community members, friends, and families of survivors and those affected by breast cancer came together to raise awareness and show solidarity. Many participants carried heartfelt signs and wore commemorative t-shirts honoring loved ones. Community members also jumped into the walk as the crowd passed their driveway, adding to their presence to the moment.

Nurses from Community Health Services and Clinical Care Services were also on hand to provide resources, offering community members vital information on various cancer screenings available and what age demographics should begin cancer screenings.

The goal of the Breast Cancer Walk was to raise awareness about breast cancer within our community and to send a message of love and hope to those currently battling the disease. The DOH wants our community members to know they are not alone and that we stand with them in their fight.

The Department of Health extends sincere appreciation to the amazing and dedicated staff who planned and organized this meaningful event, and to every community member who joined us to show support. Your presence and commitment make a difference.
