HYDRO QUEBEC BATTERY DISTRIBUTION UPDATE

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is pleased to announce that we have received 75 Eco-Flow battery packs from Hydro Quebec to support our most vulnerable community members during power outages. These battery packs will be distributed to eligible Akwesasno:ron residing in the districts of Kana:takon and Tsi Snaihne.

MCA’s Emergency Measures Program is currently finalizing the distribution list. Eligible residents will be contacted directly to confirm their information. Once confirmed, the Eco-Flow battery packs will be delivered by MCA’s Emergency Measures Officers.

To qualify for the distribution list, applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
  • Must be an elder (60+ years of age)
  • Must have a medical condition requiring electrically powered medical equipment
  • Special Needs: Individuals with special needs, or caregivers/guardians of dependents with special needs, including:
    • Physical: Requires use of a wheelchair or mobility apparatus (i.e., multiple sclerosis, severe arthritis, leukemia, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy)
    • Developmental: Individuals born with conditions affecting ability to perform daily tasks (i.e., Down syndrome, autism, aphasia or dysphasia, auditory processing disorder, visual processing disorder)
    • Behavioral/Emotional: Conditions involving mental dissociation or disconnect from reality (i.e., post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociative disorders, cognitive impairment due to stroke, brain injury, or heart disease)
    • Sensory Impairment: Loss or significant impairment of one or more senses (i.e., blindness, visual impairment, deafness, hearing impairment)
  • Must be a homeowner in the District of Kana:takon or Tsi Snaihne 
INELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:
  • Residents who currently own a generator for backup power
  • Reside as a tenant of a rental dwelling or apartment
  • Landlords of rental properties
  • Tenants residing in MCA-owned apartment complexes:
    • Chapman Road Apartment Complex
    • Park Street Apartment Complex
    • Sweetgrass Manor
    • Whoville Apartment Complex
  • • Resident of Iakhihsohtha Lodge or Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long-Term Care Facility
