MAJOR WILDLAND FIRE IN SNYE — 9:20 PM UPDATE
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that the wildland fire in the Tsi Snaihne area has been extinguished. Fire crews are clearing the scene, and Wade Lafrance Memorial Road is now open for passage.
Residents in the Whoville Road and Chapman Road area may safely return home. Police patrols are on site to ensure safety and will continue to monitor the area.
The Mohawk Council thanks the HAVFD firefighters and all surrounding departments for their quick and dedicated response as well as the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance.
Residents are reminded that no burning of any kind is permitted at this time due to weather conditions.
MAJOR WILDLAND FIRE IN SNYE — 8:30 PM UPDATE
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that residents in the Whoville Road and Chapman Road area may return home, but through-traffic is not allowed.
Wade Lafrance Memorial Road remains completely closed from Chapman Road up to 318 Wade Lafrance as fire crews continue to monitor and manage the situation. If you are resident of this area, you may return home, but vehicles may have to be parked outside the immediate vicinity due to fire equipment still being utilized.
Police patrols are on site and will turn away all through-traffic. Only residents will be allowed in the area.
Firefighters report that there is no active burning in the immediate areas, and affected homeowners can safely return.
Residents who are not directly affected are asked to avoid the area to ensure the safety of emergency personnel.

MAJOR WILDLAND FIRE IN SNYE — 8:00 PM UPDATE
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department (HAVFD) continues to respond to a large wildland fire in the Tsi Snaihne (Snye) area. The fire had been moving quickly but has been stopped from reaching homes.
A barn that had collapsed last year also caught fire during the event.
Five fire departments are assisting HAVFD through mutual aid, with one fire truck positioned at each residence along Wade Lafrance Memorial Road. Firefighters continue to monitor and address small pockets of fire caused by dry and tall brush. Wind conditions remain a factor.
Wade Lafrance Memorial Road remains closed from Whoville Road to Chapman Road. Officials are currently assessing the area to determine when residents can safely return.
Residents are asked to avoid the area to ensure the safety of emergency personnel.
Further notices will be issued as the threat diminishes. Current reports indicate the fire is being managed.
MAJOR WILDLAND FIRE IN SNYE — ROAD CLOSED
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is informing the community that the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department (HAVFD) is currently battling a major wildland fire on Wade Lafrance Memorial Road in Tsi Snaihne. They are being assisted by multiple surrounding fire departments.
Please be advised that Wade Lafrance Memorial Road is completely closed at this time. Police are on-site, and anyone attempting to enter the area will be turned away.
We ask that community members avoid the area to ensure the safety of all emergency personnel.
