MCA ATTENDS MASSENA MEETING ON INDUSTRIAL ZONING & DATA CENTERS

On Wednesday, January 21, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Grand Chief, along with several members of Council, attended a Massena Town Hall Meeting regarding proposed industrial zoning changes related to potential data center development. A key part of the discussion focused on possible zoning law changes that could allow for future data center projects in the area. 

During the meeting, community members noted the lack of environmental impact studies, as well as limited consultation and public discussion prior to moving forward with zoning changes. 

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s position is grounded in responsibility to protect our lands, waters, and people. The Council expects respectful engagement, full information sharing, and meaningful consultation before any development moves forward. 

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne will not support development that proceeds without proper consultation, meaningful engagement, and community support. 

Following the meeting, the Town of Massena committed to meeting with Akwesasne leadership and community members to continue discussions, share information, and hear concerns moving forward.
