MCA DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARDED OFNEDA 2025 AWARD

Kylee Tarbell, Director of Economic Development for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, was awarded the Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA) Economic Development Officer of the Year Award at the 2025 First Nations Economic Advancement Conference (FNEAC) — for the second year in a row.

Kylee was nominated by a community member and was one of three finalists at the gala evening. Each finalist spoke to the audience before the winner was decided by live vote. In her remarks, Kylee highlighted her team and the important role they all play in bringing positive change to the community. She showcased initiatives such as the Anowara'ko:wa Arena and grounds development, the Thompson Island staff and their incredible knowledge, and the community’s entrepreneurs. She also emphasized MCA’s commitment to upholding inherent and jurisdictional rights while advocating for the community.

Kylee noted, “I am deeply honored to be recognized as the 2025 Economic Development Officer of the Year by the Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA) at the First Nations Economic Advancement Conference (FNEAC). To stand among so many passionate leaders from across Ontario, and to have this award decided by a live audience vote, was truly humbling. This recognition is not mine alone, it reflects the incredible mentorship I’ve received, the hard work and dedication from the incredible team I work with, and the determination of our entrepreneurs in Akwesasne. Every day I am reminded of our strength, innovation, and resilience. I am proud to serve my community and to support our businesses as they continue to grow, thrive, and shape our future!”
