MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS SECTOR LAUNCHES SOBER OCTOBER INITIATIVE

The Mental Health & Wellness Sector has announced its “Sober October” initiative.  Sober October refers to a month-long challenge where people completely abstain from alcohol (similar to Dry January). People sign up for the no-drinking challenge and participate in activities that are designed to change their habits for a month and make some healthy lifestyle changes.

By going sober, you’re not just helping others, you’re helping yourself. Giving up alcohol and substances for a month comes with tons of feel-good benefits, the movement emphasizes the importance of checking in with yourself about your relationship with alcohol.

Experts have said taking a break from alcohol, even for a month, can improve your overall health, including weight loss, eliminating hangovers, saving money, better sleep, building relationships, and having more free time.

The Mental Health and Wellness Sober October series of events consists of numerous options for safe and sober activities. Please refer to the Sober October calendar to see dates, times, and locations of the events being hosted this month.

Participants in Mental Health & Wellness’ Sober October events will also receive chances to win a mosaic basket with coral curls and flowers from Dream Weaver Basketry.

For more information on Sober October, the calendar of events, or entries for the Dream Weaver Basketry prize, please call 613-575-2341 ext. 3115.
