Ahkwesáhsne Mohawk Board of Education

Ie thi ha hon:nien – “We Make the Road for Them”

At the Ahkwesáhsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE), our motto reflects our commitment to guiding our children toward success by providing the highest quality education. "We make the road for them" speaks to the path we help create — one that prepares students to thrive in school, in their community, and beyond.

Our Vision

AMBE believes in nurturing students in an environment where they are supported in every way — academically, emotionally, physically, and culturally. Our guiding principles are:

  • Learning is a lifelong journey.
  • Children learn in different ways and at their own pace.
  • Children are naturally curious and eager to grow.
  • A safe, trusting, and challenging environment supports learning.
  • Parents and caregivers are vital partners in the education process.
  • Growth must be supported across all areas — intellectual, emotional, and physical.

Iohahi:io – “The Good Road”

The Iohahi:io Akwesasne Education & Training Institute offers certificate, diploma, and degree programs in partnership with various post-secondary institutions, with a focus on student support rooted in Haudenosaunee values.

In October 2024, Iohahi:io achieved a historic milestone when the Indigenous Advanced Education and Skills Council (IAESC) approved its organizational review. This recognition made Iohahi:io the fifth Indigenous institute in Ontario with the authority to independently develop and deliver its own diploma, certificate, and degree programs — a first for Akwesasne.

Mission: To offer consistent, high-quality, and continuous learning opportunities that foster meaningful development for individuals and the community.
Goal: To provide educational and training opportunities that enhance students’ skills, enable them to learn new competencies, and improve their chances of obtaining employment.

Our Facilities

  • Iohahi:io: Science Lab, Tech Room, 3 Additional Classrooms, Cafeteria & Kitchen, Student Resource Room, TR Leger/AMBE Foundations

  • Kaheri:io (Trades Building): Opened in January 2025, this modern facility provides hands-on education in woodworking, welding, construction, and other trades. Built by trades students, Kaheri:io has since expanded to include additional classrooms, washrooms, and a welding lab.
