Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service

Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) has proudly served the community of Akwesasne since the 1960s. Originally named the St. Regis Akwesasne Police Department in 1971, the service took on its current name in 1986 to reflect its identity and commitment to the Mohawk people.

Today, AMPS is a fully operational First Nation police service with jurisdiction in both Ontario and Quebec. With a dedicated team of sworn officers, civilian staff, and public safety dispatchers, AMPS provides professional policing services across a territory that is both geographically unique and jurisdictionally complex. Akwesasne spans two provinces, borders an international boundary, and includes over 25,000 acres of land, 57 islands, and 37 kilometers of waterways.

AMPS is dedicated to protecting public safety while respecting the cultural values and traditions of the Mohawk people. In partnership with the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Commission (AMPC), AMPS ensures that the delivery of policing is effective, accountable, and grounded in community needs.
