Akwesasne Child & Family Services (ACFS) is dedicated to safeguarding the well-being and development of children through a family-centered approach that blends modern practices with our rich cultural traditions. We aim to create a supportive, safe environment where children and families can thrive, with an emphasis on collaboration, cultural respect, and shared responsibility.
Our services provide critical support for children and families facing challenges, offering a blend of traditional and contemporary resources to promote lasting well-being.





ACFS Services Include:
- Child Protection Assessment & Intervention: Ensuring children are safe in their homes and environments.
- Foster & Kinship Care: Temporary and permanent care options for children in need, with a focus on family connection and support.
- Family Support & Advocacy: Providing guidance and support to strengthen families through challenging times.
- Resource Development: Connecting families with vital resources and support networks.
- Prevention & Community Support: Offering programs to prevent family crises and support overall community well-being.
- Traditional & Cultural Support: Incorporating traditional teachings and cultural practices in family healing.
- Educational Liaison: Advocating for children’s educational needs and fostering positive school-family connections.
Eligibility Criteria for Services:
- Must reside within the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne jurisdiction.
- Must be a member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne.
Foster & Kinship Care Applicants:
- Background Check: All adult caregivers in a potential foster/kinship home must undergo a CPIC (Criminal Record Check).
- Compliance with Standards: Applicants must meet all deadlines and standards as outlined by Ministry regulations.
- Annual Renewals: Licensed foster homes must complete annual renewal processes to maintain their certification.
How to Apply for Services:
For Services:
- Call: 613-575-5020 during office hours to speak with an intake worker.
- After Hours: Contact Central Dispatch at 613-575-2000, and an ACFS on-call worker will return your call.
For Foster Care Applications:
- Initial inquiries are handled by an intake worker, who will provide further guidance.
- Application forms for foster care are distributed after the intake process.
