NOMINATIONS FOR AMBE BOARD OF TRUSTEES KANA:TAKON SEAT

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer hereby gives notice that the Ahkwesáhsne Mohawk Board of Education has requested that an election be held to fill the following Board of Trustees vacancy:

One (1) 3-year term District of Kana:takon

Nominations will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Angus Mitchell Memorial Building, located at 15 Akwesasne Street in Kana:takon.

To be eligible as a candidate for the Ahkwesáhsne Mohawk Board of Education Trustees position, a person must:

a) be an enrolled member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne;

b) be Onkwehonwe and at least one (1) of their natural parents must be a Member of Akwesasne; and

c) be at least eighteen (18) years of age; and

d) consent to having their name nominated for the purpose of running as a candidate on the Board of Education; and

e) be a resident in that District for at least six (6) months immediately prior to their nomination; and

f) maintain residency in that District during the term of office; and

g) not have been convicted within the previous five years of nomination, of an indictable offense in Canada or a felony in the United States of America; and

h) not be an employee of the Board of Education;

(i) not have been removed from the Board of Education for one complete term, three (3) years from the date of removal, prior to their nomination.

Candidates must complete and submit their nomination package no later than Friday, August 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (noon).

If required, Advanced Polls will be held on August 24 and 25, 2026, by appointment only, at the Angus Mitchell Memorial Building (Canada Post Building) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Should an election be required, voting for the Kana:takon AMBE Election will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Angus Mitchell Memorial Building, 15 Akwesasne Street, Kana:takon.

The voters list is now available for viewing at the Kana:takon Post Office, located at 15 Akwesasne Street, and at the Village Currency.

If your name does not appear on the voters list, you must complete Schedule G and Schedule H, accompanied by proof of residency, and submit them to the Chief Electoral Officer.
