One finalist will be selected to collaborate with the Office of Vital Statistics to develop a polished logo that will become the official visual identity of the Akwesasne Membership Board.

Background:

Our current logo has proudly represented the Board for approximately 35 years, and we are looking for a fresh visual identity that reflects the Board's important role within the community.  The Akwesasne Membership Board is an independent decision-making body elected across our three districts (Kawehnò:ke, Kaná:takon, and Tsi Snaíhne). The Board's core responsibility is to uphold the Akwesasne Membership Code (enacted in 1987) and the Akwesasne Residency Law. Through these laws, the Board exercises Akwesasne's inherent sovereignty and self-determination to define our own citizenship, protect our lineage, regulate residency, and preserve the cultural and political integrity of our territory.

Rules & Submission Guidelines:

Eligibility

• Open to all Akwesasne community members.

Original Concepts

• All submissions must be the entrant's original work.
• Submissions may include hand-drawn sketches, digital concept sketches, and/or written descriptions of a logo concept.
• Stock artwork, traced artwork, and AI-generated images are not permitted. 

Design Considerations

• Concepts should reflect the role, purpose, and values of the Akwesasne Membership Board.
• Artists should keep in mind that the final logo will need to be professionally developed for a variety of applications, including letterhead, official documents, websites, social media, and exterior signage.
• The final logo must be effective at both small and large sizes and remain recognizable in full colour, solid black, and solid white.

Selection Process

• The Office of Vital Statistics will review all submissions.
• The Office of Vital Statistics (OVS) reserves the right not to select a finalist if no submission sufficiently meets the objectives of the callout. All decisions of the OVS selection committee are final.
• One finalist will be selected based on the strength of their concept and invited to collaborate with the Office of Vital Statistics to develop a finalized logo design.
• The selected finalist may be asked to make reasonable revisions to the concept during the logo development process in collaboration with the Office of Vital Statistics.

Compensation

• The selected finalist will receive $1,000 upon completion of the final logo concept developed in collaboration with the Office of Vital Statistics.
• The finalist must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, assigning ownership of the final logo to the Office of Vital Statistics, before the compensation is released.

Ownership & Rights

• By submitting an entry, participants acknowledge that, if selected, they will work with the Office of Vital Statistics to refine their concept into the final logo.
• Upon acceptance of the final logo and execution of the Copyright Transfer Agreement, all copyright and ownership of the completed logo will belong exclusively to the Office of Vital Statistics.

The MCA Department of Communications is seeking local artisans and vendors to provide an interactive corn husk activity for Akwesasne’s Orange Shirt Day event on September 30, 2026.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne would like to appoint two (2) youth council representatives, to represent the community of Akwesasne. 

Eligibility:  

The membership of the Akwesasne Youth Council shall consist of representatives, with a goal of equal gender composition, and staggered terms of two to three years. In order to be eligible to represent the Mohawks of Akwesasne, you applicants must: 

1. Be enrolled or have an active applicant to be a Member of the Mohawk of Akwesasne, pursuant to the Akwesasne Membership Code; 
2. Be between the age of 18-29 at the time of appointment; 
3. Reside in one of the three districts of the Akwesasne: Kawehno:ke, Kana:takon or Tsi Snaihne; 
4. Must pass a Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) prior to appointment and not be convicted of any criminal charges during appointment term; 
5. Possess or be pursuing a high school diploma or general equivalency degree; 
6. Must be prepared to identify their vision and goals for Akwesasne youth. 

Responsibilities in Accordance with the Terms of Reference: 

• Share ideas and issues, recommendations and/or solutions with MCA;  
• Liaise with Grand Chief and Council on a regular and as needed basis; 
• Be committed to being a positive role model and promote a positive lifestyle; 
• Be respectful to all; 
• Support and work with Akwesasne youth initiatives. 

Please be advised there are additional responsibilities in accordance with the Terms of Reference. Individuals selected will be appointed as MCA Youth Representative through a Mohawk Council Resolution for a two to three-year term.

Applications are now being accepted from interested Members for appointment as Community Trustees under the Mohawks of Akwesasne Community Settlement Trust (the “Trust”). The Trust was established to provide benefits to Members of the Mohawks of Akwesasne through funds received from the Kawehnò:ke–Easterbrook Settlement Agreement and the OPG Settlement Agreement.

Opportunity Overview

• Seeking: Three (3) Community Trustees
• Term: Four (4) years
• Honorarium: Provided in accordance with Schedule “C” of the Trust
• Eligibility List: An eligibility list may be established for future replacement appointments
• Deadline: Open Until Filled

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Be a member enrolled on the Akwesasne Membership Roll and not a probationary member. 
• Not have been removed as a Community Trustee within the previous twelve (12) month period. 
• Not be an undischarged bankrupt or insolvent, as defined under applicable bankruptcy and insolvency legislation in Canada or the United States. 
• Not have been adjudged or declared to be mentally incompetent or incapable of managing their own affairs by a court of competent jurisdiction.
• Have obtained or be writing to obtain, within the first nine (9) months of appointment, introductory level trustee accreditation from the National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association of Canada (NATOA) or other qualified training centre. 
• Not be a member of Council, or be willing to resign if appointed
• Within the last ten (10) years, not have been convicted of an offence under the Criminal Code (Canada), or the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (Canada) or an offence under the laws in the United States of America, subject to limited exceptions. 
• Agree to sign the Trustee’s Certificate in Schedule “B” of the Trust, indicating an agreement to be bound by the terms of the Trust and to faithfully carry out the duties of Community Trustee.

Additional Considerations

In reviewing applications, the following may also be considered:

• Has the applicant demonstrated common sense in connection with their day-to-day activities in the community?
• Does the applicant possess any special skill or knowledge which may be of benefit to the Trustees?
• Does the applicant possess the respect of other Members in the community?
• Has the applicant made contributions to the betterment of the Mohawks of Akwesasne and the community?
• Does the applicant have the ability to communicate in the Mohawk language?

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and the Akwesasne Rights and Research Office are seeking community members to join the Claims Advisory Committee. This group supports Akwesasne’s Land Claim Negotiation Team by sharing community knowledge and guidance. Former members are encouraged to reapply.

• Must be a registered Member of the Mohawks of Akwesasne
• Must reside in one of the three districts (Kawehno:ke, Kana:takon, Tsi Snaihne) or the southern portion (Akwesasne, NY).

The Mohawks of Akwesasne Community Settlement Trust was established to provide benefits to community members through the Kawehnò:ke-Easterbrook and OPG Settlement Agreements. Trust Overseers play an important advisory role, supporting the Community Trustees and helping guide the Trust’s work.
