INVESTIGATION AND ARREST – TSI SNAIHNE INCIDENT

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) is providing an update regarding the ongoing investigation and search efforts stemming from an incident reported on April 8, 2026, in the area of Adams Marina in Tsi Snaihne (Snye).

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., AMPS received a report of an individual yelling for assistance near the marina. Officers from the AMPS Snowmobile, ATV, Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Unit responded immediately and located an unattended Sea-Doo with its engine still running in the Snye Channel.

A short time after, a male approached a nearby shoreline residence stating he had fallen into the water and required assistance. The individual left the area on foot before emergency crews could fully assess the situation. At the time, it was unknown whether additional persons were in the water.

Extensive search efforts began with support from partner agencies and continued over the following days across air, land and water. Despite no official reports of missing persons, concerns remained that someone may have been in distress. Search operations included the deployment of AMPS personnel, the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department (HAVFD), and aerial and K9 support from partner agencies.

Through the course of the investigation by our Akwesasne Organized Crime Unit, persons of interest have been identified.

On April 12, 2026, a 33 year male from Akwesasne, Quebec was arrested. He has been charged with:

  • Criminal Negligence (Section 219, Criminal Code)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 (Section 354(1))
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance (Section 320.13(1))

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the court in Valleyfield on April 14, 2026.
