2026-2027 AKWESASNE HEATING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The application process is open to Akwesasró:non who reside under the northern portion of Akwesasne, within 25 kilometers of Cornwall Island in Ontario, or within 25 kilometers of Tsi Snaihne in Quebec, one application per household.

The AHAP MCR has approved $2,000 per eligible household for the 2026-2027 winter heating season. This applies to both elders and non-elders.

Any resident who carried more than a $2,000 balance from last year to this year will not have to apply as their heating bill would be adequately covered.

Please be aware that the AHAP distribution every year is dependent on funding available and may be discontinued at any time.

All applicants will be required to provide documentation confirming their primary heating source that you would like paid. Documentation requirements may vary depending on the applicant’s heating situation.

Applicants whose primary heating source is provided through a landlord or another arrangement where they do not receive a heating bill directly will be provided with information on the appropriate documentation to submit with their application.

Once an application is approved, the approved heating assistance will be applied toward the applicant’s eligible primary heating source. Payments will not be processed until after the application intake period has closed. Applicants should continue making any required heating payments until their AHAP assistance has been processed.

The MCA Community Support Program will be notifying the community of the 2026-2027 AHAP applications intake dates. Please note that intake dates may be subject to change.
