AKWESASNE YOUTH FASHION SHOW: FUTURE GENERATIONS TAKE THE RUNWAY
On September 19, 2026, Akwesasró:non came under one roof to celebrate and support our future leaders as they took the spotlight at the Akwesasne Youth Fashion Show.
Held at the Tsi Snaihne Recreation Center, the afternoon brought together families, community members, designers, artists, and supporters from across Akwesasne to cheer on our youth as they learn the art of modeling, build confidence, and experience what it is like to take the runway.
The event began with welcoming words from Mohawk Council of Akwesasne District Chiefs Teresa Oakes, Tesha Rourke, and Cody David, who helped set the tone for an afternoon dedicated to celebrating and encouraging our youth. The Department of Community & Social Services Director (DCSS) Jaime Beechey also shared welcoming remarks and spoke about DCSS’s passion for providing meaningful opportunities for Akwesasró:non youth.
Each young model brought their own creativity and personality to the runway, showcasing fashion while incorporating elements of Kanien’keha culture. The afternoon was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the talent of our youth while creating a space for them to feel supported and proud of who they are.
