COMMUNITY WASTE AUDIT

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne would like to inform residents that staff from the MCA Environment Program will be conducting a community waste audit throughout the month of March.

Over the coming weeks, staff will collect random samples of curbside solid waste and recycling from across the three districts. These samples will be sorted, weighed, and analyzed to better understand the types and amounts of waste generated within the community.

Waste audits give us a clearer picture of what is being thrown away and what is being recycled in Akwesasne. This information helps improve our programs and education efforts so we can reduce waste and improve recycling services.

Residents do not need to take any additional steps at this time. All sampling will be conducted respectfully and in a manner that protects resident privacy. Results will be analyzed and reported at the district level rather than on an individual household basis.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the MCA Environment Program’s Waste Coordinator, Tianna Back, at tianna.back@akwesasne.ca.
