UPDATE: ONTARIO LACROSSE ASSOCIATION PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT SUPPORT
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) Department of Community & Social Services (DCSS) is pleased to advise that financial assistance will also be available to eligible Akwesasne athletes who will be participating in the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) Provincial Tournament with teams outside of the Akwesasne Minor Lacrosse Association. Families with athletes participating within the Akwesasne Minor Lacrosse Association (AMLA) teams do NOT need to apply, as funding for those teams was coordinated directly through the AMLA.
Parents or guardians of eligible Akwesasró:non athletes not within the AMLA participating in the OLA Provincial Tournament are encouraged to contact the MCA Department of Community & Social Services as soon as possible to begin the application process.
- A valid Secure Certificate of Indian Status (Status Card);
- Confirmation that the athlete is listed on an approved OLA team roster; and
- Confirmation that the athlete will be participating in the OLA Provincial Tournament.
While every effort will be made to process individual requests as quickly as possible, MCA cannot guarantee that funding will be received prior to the start of the tournament. Processing timelines depend on when all required documentation is received and verified.
While this support is being provided specifically for the OLA Provincial Tournament, MCA is also working toward a broader funding initiative that will help support youth participation in a variety of sports, activities, and programs in the future.
DCSS remains committed to exploring sustainable ways to provide more equitable support for Akwesasne families. Additional information regarding this broader initiative will be shared as it becomes available.
