FNCFS HOUSING OVERCROWDING PROGRAM
The First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Overcrowding Program supports community members with children under the age of 18 who require additional living space to safely and adequately accommodate their household.
The program is intended to assist families experiencing overcrowding, including situations where extended family members — such as grandchildren — are living in the home. The current occupancy guideline for a three-bedroom home is a maximum of six individuals (two persons per bedroom).
The MCA Department of Infrastructure, Housing & Environment’s (DIHE) Housing Sector will administer the program. Funding is available for home additions, with up to $100,000 per approved application. This amount is repayable, and all approved applicants must submit engineered plans for the proposed addition.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be the head of household
- Must be a primary residence
- Must reside within MCA jurisdiction in the northern portion of Akwesasne
- Must be in good standing with the DIHE Housing Sector
- Applicant is responsible for any costs exceeding $100,000
Application Deadline: May 1, 2026
