SUROÎT REGIONAL HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES VOLUNTEER PROGRAM FOR AKWESASNE NEPHROLOGY PATIENTS
The MCA Department of Health’s Clinical Care Services (CCS) Sector is proud to announce that Suroît Regional Hospital in Valleyfield, QC, in collaboration with the Centre Intégré de Santé et de Services Sociaux de la Montérégie-Ouest (CISSSMO), is launching a pilot volunteer support service for Akwesasne nephrology patients.
Through this new program, Akwesasró:non attending nephrology appointments may request a hospital volunteer to accompany them. Volunteers will provide support during the visit and are available to greet and communicate with patients in English.
Submitting a Request
To request hospital volunteer support for a nephrology appointment, please email the Volunteer Association as early as possible at benevolat.suroit.cisssmo16@ssss.gouv.qc.ca.
When submitting your request, please include:
- Your full name
- Your phone number
Requests must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to your appointment.
On the Day of Your Appointment
A hospital volunteer will be available at the hospital entrance to meet you upon arrival. Volunteers will be wearing a blue vest marked “Bénévole” (volunteer).
During your visit, the volunteer can:
- Accompany you inside the hospital to your appointment location
- Help you navigate the hospital
- Assist in directing you to the appropriate service areas if needed
The volunteer cannot:
- Enter the examination room with you
- Provide medical care or advice
Important Information
Patients must be able to arrive at the hospital entrance on their own (e.g., via transportation service or taxi). If your appointment is cancelled, please notify the Volunteer Association as soon as possible.
