CONNECTING OUR ELDERS WITH CARE & COMMUNITY: DOH HOSTS ELDERS RESOURCE FAIR

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Department of Health was proud to host its inaugural Elders Resource Fair on Thursday, September 24, at the Kawehno:ke Recreation Center.

The fair brought together more than 30 programs, services, vendors, and informational booths, all dedicated to connecting Akwesasne elders with valuable resources and supports. Attendees had the opportunity to visit interactive displays, enjoy hands-on experiences, ask questions, and learn more about the many services available throughout the community and surrounding areas.

Informative presentations were also offered throughout the event, covering a variety of important topics for elders and their families, including wills and estates, elder safety, long-term care admissions and processes, Special Needs Program information, Alzheimer’s education, and end-of-life care.

The Department of Health would like to extend a heartfelt nia:wen to the organizers whose hard work helped make the inaugural Elders Resource Fair a memorable and informative event. We also thank each of the programs, services, vendors, and presenters who took the time to participate, share their knowledge, and connect with our elders.

By bringing resources together in one welcoming space, the Elders Resource Fair helped make important information and supports more accessible to the people who helped build and strengthen our community: our elders.
