FISHING FOR KNOWLEDGE, CASTING CONNECTIONS
On July 8 and 9, the MCA Environment Program welcomed Akwesasró:non to Learn to Fish Akwesasne in the beautiful district of Tsi Snaihne!
This free, two-day hands-on learning experience brought community members and families together to explore fishing techniques, environmental stewardship, and traditional knowledge connected to our waterways.
Participants had the opportunity to learn shoreline fishing techniques, try their hand at lure-making and knot tying, take part in fish filleting demonstrations, and learn about local fish species. A Kanien’kéha speaker was also present throughout the event to provide language support and cultural insight, helping to strengthen our connection to traditional knowledge, language, and the land and waters.
Nia:wen to everyone who joined us and helped make Learn to Fish Akwesasne a success. This event was a great catch of culture, connection, and community — creating memories and sharing knowledge that will continue to flow for generations.
