INAUGURAL IETHIHAHON:NIEN RUN UNITES STUDENTS THROUGH FITNESS & FUN
It was an exciting and energetic day at the A’nowara’kó:wa Arena on Tuesday, May 26, as the Ahkwesáhsne Mohawk Board of Education (AMBE) hosted its first-ever Iethihahon:nien Run.
The event brought together students from all three AMBE schools, Akwesasne Freedom School, and Tsiakwawennatonhe’ts for a morning focused on fitness, fun, and community spirit. Participants ranging from Head Start to Grade 8 filled the arena grounds with laughter, determination, and friendly competition, while family members, teachers, and supporters cheered them on from the sidelines.
Staff also joined in the excitement with a lighthearted teachers’ race featuring inflatable costumes, much to the delight of the crowd. In the end, the eagle from Tsiakwawennatonhe’ts soared to victory, earning first place and taking home the Golden G.O.A.T. trophy.
The Iethihahon:nien Run was a wonderful celebration of wellness, unity, and school pride, bringing students, staff, families, and community partners together through movement, encouragement, and positive energy.
A special niawenhkó:wa goes out to the organizers for planning such a successful event, as well as to the many partners, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the day possible. Thank you to the Tri-Recreation Committees, Chippy Lippy and Island Girlz Catering for water and food donations; the Akwesasne Family Wellness Program; the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department and first responders; and MCA’s Community Health Services, Special Needs Program, and Jordan’s Principle for their support.
