MOHAWK COUNCIL OF AKWESASNE CONGRATULATES CAN-AM WARRIORS ON 2026 HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne extends congratulations to the 1980 Can-Am Warrior Lacrosse Team on their upcoming induction into the North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame. We are proud to recognize the Akwesasne players who were part of this historic team: Ernie Mitchell, Lewis Mitchell, Dave White, Larry King, Tom Thomas, and the late Steve Miller, along with Team Manager Peter Garrow.
The Can-Am Warriors earned the silver medal at the first World Box Lacrosse Championship held in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, in July 1980. Their skill, speed, and determination helped showcase Indigenous excellence in lacrosse on the world stage.
The induction ceremony will be held on May 30, 2026, in Oneida, Wisconsin.
We honour this achievement and the legacy these players continue to carry forward for our community and for the game of lacrosse.
Nia:wen and congratulations to all involved.
