FROM CLAY TO FLAME: TRADITIONAL PIT FIRING DEMONSTRATION

Step into a tradition that connects us to the knowledge, skills, and sustainable practices of our ancestors. 

Thompson Island Cultural Camp (TICC) invites community members to experience a traditional outdoor pit firing demonstration on Friday, July 17, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Akwesasne Seed Hub (1636 NY-37, Akwesasne, NY). 

For thousands of years, our ancestors used wood fires to create pipes, cooking vessels, and other pottery pieces. During this hands-on cultural demonstration, Roger Perkins will share the traditional process of wood firing pottery, along with the teachings and knowledge connected to this practice. 

This event is part of ongoing cultural revitalization efforts, helping reconnect our community with original ways of creating, learning, and living sustainably.
