TRADITIONAL MEDICINES PROGRAM — MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Traditional Medicines Program is offering two hands-on mentorship opportunities designed to support learning, land-based knowledge, and connection with medicinal plants, while strengthening relationships with the land, our medicines, and one another. 

🌱 Traditional Medicines Mentorship Program 

This land-based mentorship focuses on identifying, harvesting, transplanting, and processing medicinal plants across various environments. 

Participants will learn directly on the land, including travel throughout the community, swamps, fields, and forested areas. 

Program Details: 

• No experience necessary
• Must be comfortable walking in natural environments (swamps, fields, forests)
• Must be willing to travel throughout the community and surrounding areas
• Commitment required: bi-weekly sessions from May–September
• Youth under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian 

🪶 Ceremonial Garden Mentorship Program 

This mentorship offers participants the opportunity to learn how to grow, tend, and harvest medicinal plants in a ceremonial garden setting. The program supports reciprocity, self-sufficiency, and relationship-building among participants and with the natural world. 

Participants will gain hands-on experience working with medicinal plants in a shared garden space.  

Program Details: 

• No experience necessary
• Must be willing and able to help prepare and maintain the garden
• Commitment required: bi-weekly sessions from May–October
• Youth under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
