TSIIONKWANONHSO:TE SELECTED AS ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENTS’ COUNCILS BLUE TICKET WINNER
The Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long-Term Care (LTC) facility was recently awarded as a Blue Ticket winner by the Ontario Association of Residents’ Councils (OARC). Tsiionkwanonhso:te was one of six winners selected throughout the province of Ontario.
The OARC was founded in 1981 by residents living in long-term care home and is Ontario’s only organization dedicated to supporting Residents’ Councils and amplifying the voices of people living in long-term care. Created by residents, for resident, the OARC continues to engage residents in governance, advisory work, consultations, and educational initiatives, ensuring lived experience informs and guides their work.
The totas at Tsiionkwanonhso:te were given a prize pack which included sun hats, baseball caps, bags, mugs, and a blanket for a prize giveaway at their next Residents Council meeting. The Blue Ticket was sent along with balloons and a banner sign for their meetings.
Jessica Chong, an Education and Home Support Regional Coach for the Eastern Region, attended the festivities and delivered the Blue Ticket and the prize pack. In her role, Jessica works alongside LTC homes to support Residents’ Councils through education, coaching, and problem-solving which reflects each home’s unique needs and priorities.
During the visit, residents were able to ask Jessica questions and she was more than happy to answer and give information to help the totas understand the importance of their voice. Recreation staff were also able to ask her questions, and received helpful tips and suggestions on helping the totas with meetings.
Following the meeting, the totas and staff received a wonderful review, noting that their efforts were nailing all aspects of a residents’ council.
The totas had a wonderful time and will be conducting Resident Council President voting very soon!
