HUDENOSAUNEE UNDER THE STARS: ASTRONOMY WITH SAMANTHA DOXTATOR
On Tuesday, June 3, the Akwesasne Child & Family Services (ACFS) Traditional Support Unit welcomed guest speaker Samantha Doxtator for a meaningful and memorable evening focused on Haudenosaunee Astronomy.
Samantha delivered an engaging and insightful presentation that beautifully intertwined Haudenosaunee physical and celestial knowledge with universal astronomy. Attendees were captivated by her unique visual journey, crafted in collaboration with the late Sasha Doxtator of the Oneida Nation. This presentation offered a special perspective on our creation stories, clan systems, longhouse structures, and the sacred balance of house and spirit — covering themes of new life, death, and our celestial connections.
We extend a heartfelt niawenhkó:wa/thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success! A sincere thank you also goes to Big Russ’ Catering for providing delicious refreshments, and most especially to our guest speaker, Samantha Doxtator, for sharing her invaluable knowledge and inspiring our community through her powerful storytelling and cultural insight.
We’re grateful for the continued support of the community as we celebrate and carry forward our Haudenosaunee teachings — on earth and in the stars.
