Department of Technical
Services (DTS)
Programs include:

Project Management, Roads Program, Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Program, and Buildings
Maintenance Program.

Mandate:

The Department of Technical Services provides professional project delivery service to the Mohawk
Council of Akwesasne in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of all community
buildings and infrastructure. In addition, the Department compromises of programs that are
responsible to operate and maintain all the Community Buildings and Infrastructure according to a
Maintenance Management system that focuses on Health and Fire Safety, Preventative Maintenance and
building life expectancy.

Services Offered:

Project Management is responsible for implementation of all capital projects approved by the Mohawk
Council of Akwesasne. This includes the planning, design and construction phases.

Roads Program:

Roads Manager

Services Offered:

Roads operations include grading, sanding, snow removal, road repair, storm drainage
management, general maintenance and emergency response for 105 lane km of public roads in
Akwesasne.

For a new homeowner, the Roads Program will provide a culvert and a load of gravel for a new
driveway branching off a public road.
The road crew is on-call 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.

Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

Services Offered:

Fire Hydrants:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the fire hydrants. Responsible for ensuring the
fire hydrants are operable for the Fire Department.
The only people that should be opening the fire hydrants are the Fire Department and the Water
Department.

If you have any questions concerning a fire hydrant in your neighborhood, please do not hesitate to

Wastewater:

Operations and maintenance of the sewage treatment plants, the sewer lines, and the manholes.
As a homeowner, you are responsible for the sewer line connected to your house and the plumbing
within the interior of your house.
The homeowner must contact the Water & Wastewater Manager for a new sewer line access at
(613) 933-4924.
Water:
Responsible for the operations and maintenance of the water plants and for the waterline up to the
shut-off valve to your home.
As a homeowner, you are responsible for the waterline going from the shut-off valve to your home.

For new waterline access connections, the homeowner is responsible for the property
Mission / Vision Statement The Department of Technical Services will provide professional project
delivery service to the community in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of all
community buildings
excavation and the plumbing hookups, from the
shut-off valve to their house. The MCA water operators will provide a pressure reducing valve,
a back flow preventing valve and a shut- off valve for the homeowner to install. The homeowner will
be advised to install an equalization tank. This will help prevent plumbing damage in the home from
pressure surges in the water line. The homeowner must contact the Water/Wastewater Manager for a
new waterline access connection at (613) 933-

Building Maintenance Program

Services Offered:

The Building Maintenance Program oversees and manages the maintenance of the AMBE schools, the MCA
Administration buildings, the Department of Health and the Department of Community & Social
Services facilities. The maintenance crew is “On-Call” 24 hours a day
/ 7 days a week.

If a community member has an issue regarding an MCA building, please call the corresponding contact
person listed below, utilizing the “during business hours contact number” listed below ,
or after normal business hours, call the Akwesasne Mohawk Police
