MCA WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY & SOCIAL SERVICES
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne welcomes Jaime Beechey, who will be serving as the new Director of Community & Social Services.
The Department of Community & Social Services (DCSS) provides vital supports to the community through three key programs: Akwesasne Child & Family Services, the Community Support Program, and the Akwesasne Family Wellness Program.
Finding the right leader for this important role was a careful process, and Ms. Beechey brings the experience, dedication, and values needed to support the children, families, and community of Akwesasne.
Ms. Beechey is a registered social worker with over 20 years of experience in child welfare, violence against women, and the justice system. She most recently served as Director of Service at Family and Children’s Services of Lanark, Leeds and Grenville, where she led programs supporting children and families. She also has extensive experience with kinship, adoption, and child protection services through her work with the Children’s Aid Society of SDG.
She holds a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Leadership in Human Services from the University of Calgary; a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba; and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and in Criminology & Criminal Justice from Carleton University.
Ms. Beechey shared, “It is an honour to join the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne as Director of Community and Social Services. As a guest on Mohawk territory, I am deeply committed to listening, learning, and walking alongside the community in meaningful ways. My hope is to support the strengths, goals, and vision of Akwesasne, while working together to create services that reflect and uplift the community’s priorities.”
Acting Executive Director Shannon Roundpoint added, “It’s a pleasure to welcome Ms. Beechey to our organization. We believe that her insights and expertise in the field will greatly enhance our capabilities and further our mission to provide outstanding support and care to Akwesasne children and families.”
Beyond her professional life, Ms. Beechey enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, hiking, boating, and reading.
